An Evaluation Of The Application Of Study Skills Assignment
An Evaluation Of The Application Of Study Skills Assignment An Evaluation Of The Application Of Study Skills â" Assignment Example > Development of a Rechargeable Battery TechnologyAbstractA group of one or more electrochemical cells refers to rechargeable battery or storage battery. Because the electrochemical cells have electrochemical reactions that are reversible, then, these rechargeable batteries are secondary cells. In addition, the rechargeable batteries have different categories that include different sizes, and shapes. A number of rechargeable batteries may be put in a series or parallel connection to prove the required amount power for a given system (Linden, D. et al, 2002, p 12). To some extent, rechargeable batteries have a positive effect to depletion of the environment and lower the total cost of use compared to the disposable batteries, which have a greater negative impact to the environment and have a higher total cost of use. The focus in this report is show the ideal understanding of the development of the rechargeable battery technology. This report will entail the history and the developme nt of the rechargeable battery, the environmental impacts, advantages and disadvantages of using the technology, and give recommendations that need to have adjustments dealing with this technology. IntroductionThe development of the rechargeable battery technology retraces back to the 1859 invention of Georges Leclanche, a French engineer. This was the first development of the rechargeable technology, which he made lead acid battery that was rechargeable. In the recent past, researchers have faced significant challenges concerning the development of how they can construct a rechargeable battery that has minimal loss in energy capacity. The use of nanotechnology in the recent past has used in the field has proved to give significant result that is appealing to the need. This development has shown that only two minutes are necessary to charge a lithium ion battery to about 90% of the battery charge. Use of lithium air battery is another area of research, which has a cathode made of m aterial that uses the oxygen in the surrounding area and a lithium anode. As a result in this reaction lithium oxide or peroxide is formed while releasing energy, this occurs when oxygen mixes with lithium. This technology increases substantially the energy density available in the battery for use. Another research showed that nanoparticles used improved the electrical conductivity, therefore, could be very powerful for the development of the rechargeable battery. Through this technology, the use of nanomaterials would greatly improve the flow of ions from one electrode to the other. All this research owes to the replacement of the petrol drives to develop a battery that can sustain a drive as petrol. In essence, this technology is most important in that it aims at reducing the environmental effects caused by other sources of electric power. In the fight to reduce the rate of pollution, many rechargeable batteries are under development in different forms to reduce the flow of the batteries that pose a danger to the environment in the market. For example, the use portable radios, torches, lamps, watches, and calculators amongst other portable devices, they are equipped with rechargeable batteries. In as much as the rechargeable batteries have their economic impact, there are alternatives that can much the same as the rechargeable batteries to store charge. These alternatives may include the use of utracapacitrors. This alternative has a drawback in that the terminal voltage declines easily as compared to the rechargeable batteries.

The Road Not Taken By Robert Frost - 2204 Words
While there have been a number of iconic poems throughout the centuries, one that continues to receive recognition and mention is ââ¬Å"The Road Not Takenâ⬠by Robert Frost. In this poem, Frost examines the consequences that result from each choice we make in life. There is a sense of ambivalence that comes with making a decision, especially if both available options appear sound. Consequently, within his poem, Frost examines the relationship between progress and the sacrifice of possibilities. He also provides insight into an individualââ¬â¢s thoughts both prior to and following the decision making process. In this particular poem, Frost is discussing a literal decision between two paths in the woods. However, it quickly becomes apparent that theâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Additionally, it is also applicable and relatable to every individual of any age, gender, sex, race, etc. The poem is about the ability of an individual to make a decision in life and accept the conse quences, whether positive or negative, that come with that decision. Therefore, this universality of the poem is a prime reason why it has continued to amass such support and reflection to this day. The poem is unique because of the vast range of circumstances and situations to which it can be applied. Therefore, it is able to cross all boundaries and societal norms in order to impact and reference the life of every individual who reads it and contemplates the meaning behind it. While Frostââ¬â¢s poem is highly relatable to every individual that reads it, it is also important because of the mind frame and life of Frost when he composed it. While many individuals believe that the poem offers a profound message on life and the choices that we make, the reality is that the poem is meant to be taken much more openly. It is a reflection of all the decisions we make without placing too much meaning into them. In 1914, Britain had declared war on Germany forcing Frost to flee to his ho me of England. At this time Robert Frost had formed a strong bond with fellow writer Edward Thomas. Prior to the war, the two companions had plans to move to America together. However Thomas, an indecisive man, was unable to choose between staying or

Greek Art â⬠Continuity/Change over Time Free Essays
Over time, a cultureââ¬â¢s art will change or improve in some way. Some characteristics may remain the same while other characteristics change drastically. Art in the Archaic era and the Classical era had no emotion and unrealistic features, but the Classical era brought a sense of anatomy and movement to its art. We will write a custom essay sample on Greek Art ââ¬â Continuity/Change over Time or any similar topic only for you Order Now In the Archaic era and Classical era, emotion was not present in art. Characters had plain expressions on their faces; their eyes told nothing, regardless of what they were doing. The Discobolus sculpture from the Classical era depicts a man who about to throw a disc, which was a common Greek sport. However, instead of competitive or determined look on his face, he is emotionless. The manââ¬â¢s face is blank, as if bored or tired. Another characteristic that remained constant throughout the Archaic era and Classical era was unrealistic features. Kouros, from the Archaic era, is an excellent example of the unnatural features from the two eras. Kouros is a statue of a man with stylized hair and blank eyes. During this time period, hair did not look natural and flowing, but stiff and dramatically detailed. Also, the eyes are blank and do not look as realistic as the eyes seen in later works of art. During the Classical era came around, art began to change and improve. First, the art of the Classical era showed some sense of anatomy. The Three-Seated Goddesses sculpture from the Classical era depicts this sense of anatomy. Although not perfect, the bodies of the goddesses portray the form of a woman through their dresses. Before the Classical era, art from the Archaic era did not exhibit any form such as this. Another change the Classical era brought to art was a sense of movement. During the Archaic era, sculptures portrayed people in stiff, unrealistic poses. In the Classical era, the body became more relaxed and had a more normal position. The Three-Seated Goddesses sculpture shows not only the enhanced sense of anatomy, but also the improvement in movement in the Classical era. The goddesses lounge on a seat, which looks more natural compared to the Kouros sculpture, where the man is standing rigidly with one foot in front of the other. Around the same time as the Archaic and Classical eras, the Zhou Dynasty of China was creating works of art. In 433 B. C. E. , the Bronze Bells were created. The Bronze Bells were created through bronze casting, a significant achievement at this time. Also, each bell can produce two different sounds, one from being hit in the center and one from being hit on the rim. These bells were thought to be used in rituals to communicate with supernatural forces. In conclusion, styles of art continue and change over time. Characteristics such as stylized features and emotionless faces remained constant between the Archaic era and the Classical era. However, in the Classical era, a sense of movement and anatomy was introduced to art. Time will continue to change cultures and their art, just as it influenced the changes and constants of Greek art between the Archaic era and the Classical era. Sylvia Plath, Personal Response free essay sample
Plath views the world in an insightful and unusual way. She has a meticulous eye for detail which is evident in all her poems. Her poetry is confessional, in the sense that it is often an obsessive analysis of herself. The exploration of identity is apparent in poems that I have studied. These poems are ââ¬ËMorning Songââ¬â¢, ââ¬ËChildââ¬â¢, ââ¬ËBlack Rook in Rainy Weatherââ¬â¢ (BRR), ââ¬ËMirrorââ¬â¢ and ââ¬ËThe Arrival of the Bee Boxââ¬â¢ (ABB). These poems are intriguing and narrate the world around Plath. As her poetry is often confessional, the tone is sometimes melancholic, her honesty is visceral, yet her writing is beautiful. The theme of beauty and love is explored by Plath in ââ¬ËMorning Songââ¬â¢ and ââ¬ËChildââ¬â¢. These poems are joyous celebrations of the birth of her children. In ââ¬ËMorning Songââ¬â¢; ââ¬Å"Love set you going like a fat gold watchâ⬠The imagery here is unusual, yet Plath portrays the fragility of a child and the value that it holds. We will write a custom essay sample on Sylvia Plath, Personal Response or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page This poem explores Plathââ¬â¢s introduction to motherhood, and whether she will make a good mother, ââ¬Å"Your nakedness shadows our safetyâ⬠. The arrival of new life is juxtaposed with fear and effectively, the unknown. Plathââ¬â¢s own personal issues cloud this celebratory moment and turn the poem into a gloomy atmosphere. As they ââ¬Å"stand around blanklyâ⬠, unaware as to what to do it is interesting to see how they will adapt to the unfamiliar. Plath appears to look like a mother ââ¬Å"I stumble from bed cow-heavy and floral In my Victorian nightgownâ⬠Her body has adapted, now Plath must adjust her mental state to this aesthetic moment in life. By the end of ââ¬ËMorning Songââ¬â¢, Plath begins to acknowledge the beauty of the child ââ¬Å"the clear vowels rise like balloonsâ⬠, yet she maintains awareness that this new arrival is fragile. Similarly, ââ¬ËChildââ¬â¢ deals with unusual, striking imagery and acknowledges the innocence of the childs world ââ¬Å"Your clear eye is the one absolutely beautiful thingâ⬠. The childââ¬â¢s innocence is captured evocatively, it is unaware of the ââ¬Å"troublousâ⬠times to come. Plath bleakly juxtaposes the innocent world of the child with her reality in the adult world. For a moment, she captures the beauty of innocence, the appeal of being a child with little to worry about. Yet on cue we are snatched back to the ââ¬Å"wringing of hands, this dark ceiling without a starâ⬠. Plath accurately contrasts the two worlds, creating a disturbing atmosphere for the reader. For Plath, happiness is only a ââ¬Å"flareâ⬠, and it is gone sooner than it is there. This bleak, disturbing reality is Plathââ¬â¢s world. This is exemplified in ââ¬ËBRRââ¬â¢. The rook is a metaphor for Plath herself. Everyone knows that a rook is a common breed and quite mundane perched ââ¬Å"on the swift twig up there, Arranging and rearranging its feathersâ⬠. The bird represents Plathââ¬â¢s attempts to fix her imperfections. Pathetic fallacy creates a gloomy atmosphere in which hope is lost, the rain is symbolic of Plathââ¬â¢s lack of inspiration for a poem. This is ironic as, the mundane animal and the view from her kitchen has inspired this poem. This poem is deeply confessional and portrays Plathââ¬â¢s life in a bleak manner. ââ¬Å"I am wary (It could happen Even in this dull ruinous landscapeâ⬠. The reader experiences Plathââ¬â¢s lack of faith in the world, that joy is non-existent. However this line symbolises that Plath maintains a flicker of hope to come into her life. Unlike the poems about her children where Plath celebrates those happy momentous moments, she never fails to see the melancholic side to everything, which can often be disturbing for readers. The Arrival of the Bee Boxâ⬠is interesting because it addresses the concept of fear and its persistence in Plath. Subsequently, fear is an inherent emotional backbone to the poem ââ¬Å"Mirrorâ⬠. This poem deals with Plathââ¬â¢s fear of aging. Plathââ¬â¢s poems frequently address the birth of a new life and this is juxtaposed with the inevitable los s of the beauty of innocence and childhood. In ââ¬Å"Mirrorâ⬠Plath deals excessively with the concept of mortality. ââ¬Å"I am silver and exact. I have no preconceptionsâ⬠The mirror cannot alter what it reflects; ââ¬Å"I am not cruel, only truthfulâ⬠. The beauty of a mirrors capacity to reflect what it sees is contradicted with Plathââ¬â¢s disapprovement of what she receives. This poem deals with Plathââ¬â¢s disturbing search for her identity. This is achieved through the unusual imagery employed by Plath. In the second stanza, the mirror becomes a lake. It is as if Plath is seeking a second opinion. ââ¬Å"Now I am a lake. A woman bends over me Searching my reaches for what she really isâ⬠Plath addresses her insecurities and the poem signifies Plathââ¬â¢s bleak acceptance of what she has become. ââ¬Å"She rewards me with tears and an aggitation of handsâ⬠. Disappointed by what she sees, the reader gains a disturbing insight into the transformation from childhood to adulthood, and the cruel, harshness of the world around us. The final image of the poem is disturbing and unusual ââ¬Å"In me she has drowned a young girl, and in me an old woman rises toward her day after day like a terrible fishâ⬠. This image is haunting, yet stereotypical of Plathââ¬â¢s honest, visceral poetry. The universality of the themes in her poetry are appealing to the reader, yet she achieves this in a dark, often pessimistic way. This makes her poetry artistically beautiful and unique. Plath stood out as a poet on my leaving cert because the images were thought provoking and intriguing. In conclusion, once the reader gets past the abstract approach to Plathââ¬â¢s poetry, they can enthuse in the original startling imagery that envision the world we live in. The confessional appeal of the poetry allows us to engage with Plath on a personal level, making the meaning of her poetry catch our intellectual appeal. Plathââ¬â¢s art of writing is inherently disturbing, yet surprisingly beautiful and aesthetic. She makes the mundane aspects of life interesting and challenges our perspective.

Taking Blood Pressure Measurement
Taking Blood Pressure Measurement Introduction One important lesson in medical education is how to measure the vital signs of life such as blood pressure. For one to understand how to perform this accurately, it requires attention to detail, correct technique and careful listening (Kier, Wise and Krebs, 2003). The term blood pressure is taken from the fluctuating pressure that blood applies against arterial walls as the heart alternately expands and contracts.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Taking Blood Pressure Measurement specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More This pressure is useful in that it can be used to assess the condition of the heart, amount of blood forced out of the heart at contraction, condition of the arteries and to some extent the viscosity and volume of the blood (Kier, Wise and Krebs, 2003).à The blood pressure of an individual is measured in the brachial artery of the arm at the antecubital space (See Figure I). Initially measuremen t should be performed on both hands as there is normally a 5-10mm difference (Kier, Wise and Krebs, 2003). After this subsequent readings should be continued on the arm with higher pressure. The maintenance of blood pressure is mainly the result of two related factors. The first being the heart which is responsible for pumping blood round the human body. The human heart reportedly contracts almost 100,000 times daily forcing blood through the aorta and the entire range of blood vessels (Kier, Wise and Krebs, 2003). A strong pump is essential to make sure that the blood flows and the pressure does not drop. In this report a discussion will be presented on how to provide a computer mediated lesson to teach how to measure blood pressure to a group of students. In addition to this a suitable method of evaluation will be selected to assist the instructor assess how well the learners understood the topic. Also to be discussed in the report is the role and effectiveness of one authoring to ols that will be used in presenting the learning material to the learnerââ¬â¢s. Method of Evaluation The purpose of evaluation of a learner is to establish whether what was taught has been understood (Reeves Hedberg, 2003). It is reported that the most important function of evaluation is review of what has been presented to the learner. It is hoped that through reviewing the highlights of what was learnt the learner can recap and develop a sound understanding of the concepts taught (Reeves Hedberg, 2003). Prior to taking an evaluation it is important that the learner review the text or the material that was used in instruction.à Another crucial but sometimes underutilized function of evaluation is needs assessment (Reeves Hedberg, 2003). In the case of taking blood pressure it may be crucial that a needs assessment form part of the evaluation process depending on at which stage the learners are in the course.Advertising Looking for essay on education? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More In this case a practical needs assessment evaluation may need to be undertaken to ensure the learner is fully conversant with what is required to successfully carry out the blood pressure test. This would is sometimes known as a formative evaluation. A more detailed test may require a learner to carry out the actual tests and record results. Such an evaluation is more rigorous and may be classified as a formative evaluation. As indicated above the evaluation methods used can either be formative or summative. In the case where formative evaluation is used the goal of the teacher is to establish the progression of students towards meeting the learning goals. In this case this suggests progress in the class towards learning how to complete the test and its relevance (Oermann and Gaberson, 2009). On the other hand where summative evaluation is used the goal of the teacher will be to establish the student has com pleted the set of goals required within the rotation such as a term or semester (Oermann and Gaberson, 2009). This position shows clearly that the assessment will depend on the duration for which this task will be covered and whether it will be part of a set of tasks that are completed within a length of time. However, if the task is a one off affair a formative evaluation will be appropriate. This may include a brief set of questions to ascertain whether the learners were paying attention during the lecture. Some questions on what materials are required and the main points of how to take a blood pressure reading could form the evaluation. Instructional techniques In the selection of an appropriate instructional technique it is important to know when a specific instructional technique is best applied. Given that that this lesson will be computer mediated it appears a lecture will be the most suitable technique for providing the lesson or lessons. This is because lectures are best ap plicable to a lesson when the instructor intends to give an overview of a greater issue (Sharma, 2007). The lecture can be taken to e appropriate as it allows the instructor a longer time to discuss the issue at hand. As with the case of taking blood pressure a lecture or series of lectures is important as it will help put the issue into its correct perspective. As with any illness it is necessary to understand causes and possible circumstances to avoid. A lengthy discussion such as this would require ample time. In addition to time to speak the instructor can make use of the computer or information technology to make the lecture more interesting (Sharma, 2007). This is because a lecture is also useful when the instructor wants to aid or supplement student reading.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Taking Blood Pressure Measurement specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More In such cases an instructor can ask the class to read on a specific topic and later prepare a brief lecture or series of lectures to expand on the materials that the learners covered in their individual reading.à A lecture is also useful when the instructor needs to provide the learner with background information on the topic. In such cases the learner will then be able to go about the study of the topic more intelligently (Sharma, 2007). Without an appropriate introduction it is sometimes impossible for a learner to determine how deep and wide to study the desired subject. However, for introductory purposes a lecture can be very appropriate.à Another reason why the lecture may be an appropriate mode of instruction is because the instructor may want to allow the students more time for in depth study or assignments or other tasks (Sharma, 2007). Given that this task was to be accomplished in a semester of a nursing course it is likely that the student would be required to handle some assignments after completing the lesson. It is no t uncommon for learners to be given tasks such as assignments to assist them gain deeper understanding (Sharma, 2007). In such a case therefore a lecture will be useful in acting as a suitable eye opener and providing descriptive boundaries to consider when doing further reading. A lecture can also be very useful when the instructor wants to arouse interest in the learner. Introducing a new and perhaps complex article is likely to be difficult and complicated. However, with the use of an interesting well arranged and presented lecture a student can be aroused and enticed to enjoy an otherwise difficult or complex topic (Sharma, 2007). In addition to the above the instructor may want to use the opportunity of a lecture to teach terms associated with the topic or clarify common misconceptions. Such occasions are best dealt with when the instructor opts to give an audible explanation. In addition to providing information this also acts as an opportunity to allow learners to ask questio ns about the topic. Learner Activities Since the subject matter in this case is related to medical studies we will use some information from medical studies to guide us in selection of learner activities. It has been reported that medical studies are best learnt when the learner s are motivated (Distlehorst, Dunnington and Folse, 2000). It has bee suggested that an interesting activity that may captivate the learnerââ¬â¢s upon completion of the lecture is a practical opportunity to attempt to take the blood pressure and listen in on the different phases. Blood pressure phases are identical to the phases of the pulse and an opportunity to physically perform the examination should be fairly exciting to most of the students (Kier, Wise and Krebs, 2003).Advertising Looking for essay on education? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More In addition to that another activity that the learnerââ¬â¢s can participate in where the course is being offered near a clinic is an arrangement to walk in at scheduled times and assist the nurses in performing the examination. This activity is thought to be useful as learning is thought to be efficient when there is feedback to the learner (Distlehorst, Dunnington and Folse, 2000). Such an opportunity is bound to be efficient as there is immediate feedback each time the student does something the right or wrong way. In addition to the above two the normal activities such as assignments may also be used to follow up on learning and even for evaluation of learning. Computer Mediated Learning Authoring Tool For the purposes of preparing a lecture or series of lectures on how to take blood pressure measurement a multimedia authoring tool such as PowerPoint may be used. Such tools allow the user to bring together various multimedia components to bring together a powerful presentation (See Figure I). For example on may incorporate pictures, audio and tables or charts and even video to make the presentation of a lecture very interesting (Stroman, Wilson Wauson, 2008). PowerPoint is typically called a slide show program and its main feature is it allows the preparation of a presentation one slide at a time or in a linear fashion. Each slide can allow the presenter to attach any of the multimedia content earlier mentioned and may allow some degree of branching (Stroman, Wilson Wauson, 2008). The software was selected because it is readily available and fairly easy to learn. References Distlehorst, L. H., Dunnington, G., Folse, J. R. (2000). Learn How To Write A Perfect Thematic Essay
Learn How To Write A Perfect Thematic Essay How to Write the Best Thematic Essay Sometimes, students are scared when being assigned a thematic essay. But donââ¬â¢t worry; we are sure youââ¬â¢ve written tons of thematic essays already, they just were called differently, for example, analytical or research essay. However, a thematic essay is not the same as those ones, but sometimes professors do not give exact writing instructions. A thematic essay is an essay discussing a phenomenon, concept, or theme. Here you should use all the skills you mastered when writing previous essays. The skills you will need to write your thematic essay include writing in a well-organized manner, presenting evidence, and supporting your thesis. Thematic Essay Definition Sometimes, professors call any assignment on literature a thematic essay. And, very often teachers assign any essays revolving a certain subject or theme in any branch of life as thematic essays. Some professors think that a thematic essay can be written only about literary devices, i.e. you will have to create a thesis around metaphor, symbolism, or hyperbole, for example. Your task will be to take a motif in the literature and create a thesis around that motif. The motif can be different, for example, success, self-knowledge, lost love, etc. As you can see, the approaches of teachers to thematic essays are very different. One of such common topics is How does William Shakespeare use young love bloom to spread the tragedy seeds in Romeo and Juliet?
